Spotted some female mule deer just off the road up in the Cleveland National Forest. Partly cloudy day. Crop, ACR, CS5, added a bit of canvas on top & bottom, cloned out some twigs and spots in BG, touched up a few spots on deer.

Brendan, a good strong pose here but I feel that adding canvas top and bottom has made the composition a little boxy. Nice detail in the deer and good separation from the background. In a perfect world, having a little more space on the lhs would have helped in the presentation but still a nice image.

    Brendan,

I would like lots more space allround, most particularly on the LHS. Nice detail.

Thanks Hilary, Ken, & Harshad. I do tend to go boxy too often - need to keep that in mind when framing in-camera. Here's a quick repost with added space.

    Brendan,

The repost is just what I had in mind, perfect

Repost looks good now Brendan, showing good detail and soft lighting.

Hi Brendan, I think the OP had a better 'quality' to it, but the additional space has helped. I suspect the 2x has taken it's toll on IQ, so just a thought, but perhaps shoot this wider next time, going for a habitat/environment feel, similar to Kirans elephant?

Thanks Steve, agree I need to work on my in-camera framing. As far as IQ on repost, I did not work on the original file, just a quick change on the jpeg, so that may be the reason.

Could well be, however thanks for the additional feedback.

Nice pose and diffused light. The added space has helped, though I agree with Steve's observation on the IQ of the OP being better
