    Default Snowy Owl

I was fortunate to spend some time with this Snowy Owl last year in February, With the Irruption in process this year I am hopeful to have another opportunity at this magnificent species this season... Being a descent crop I was hesitant in taking it any further.

Comments and critiques welcome and appreciated!

    What a nice image, Dan.
Nice light and good angle and eye contact.
    I like ramesh's repost.
The IQ seems good, a bit off the bottom would be nice if you can.

This is such a stunningly beautiful capture, Dan. That eye contact is fantastic, and is even better with the lightening done by Ramesh. Love that little foot peeking into the sun. The clouds add some nice interest.

A beauty Dan. Sometimes the image is not about the fine detail but is more about the feeling. This one really does it for me - it invokes that spirit of why we love birds. The eye brightening has really helped.

Hi Dan, good angle and eye contact, and I really like the soft light in this. All round, good exposure, sharp, and the two tone BG looks good too. I like what Ramesh did to the eye, and another vote for taking some off the bottom. Well captured.

I like the angle of the wings and the eye contact while the BG gives a hint of it's usual habitat of open, snow-covered fields. A great image of this awesome species.

Beautiful image Dan! I like the feeling this image has as well. I tried a version saturating the yellow in the eye a little more and like it

    ramesh,

I like the edit, It makes a big difference and brings much more impact to the image, It has me wondering why I never thought to do that, Glad I
posted it here and you thought too. I will be going back and making that change, Thanks!

I will post the edited version at the end here, let me know how it looks!

    Andrew,

Thank you, agree it helped. I often struggle with things like that, sometimes feel shadows fall where they fall and thought to leave it, but agree it helps the image...

    Hey Jim,
appreciate the comments and your thoughts. I'll post an edit below of the suggestions including yours. should I saturate even more still?

Thanks again everyone... I took the suggestions and lightened the eye, trimmed a tad from the bottom and boosted the saturation slightly in the eyes. hopefully this is what everyone had in mind. I like all the suggestions, Many Thanks!

Hi Dan, Excellent as noted above. My only wish is that the faint horizon line were a bit lower so that it did not intersect with the bird.

Was this bird baited by you or by others?

YAW. Thanks for letting us know. They fly without bait only for the very lucky. I will be looking for one on Long Island next week; there are a bunch around. I fly tomorrow.
