This is great Ken! I love the running pose and the dust kicked up by the running. The backlit effect is really nice as well. Great that she is looking right at you. No nits from me. I also like the centered comp,

    Gail and Marc,

Thanks very much for your comments, nice to see that some appreciate action rather than a bog standard portrait

Certainly handled the backlight well here Ken, and well timed.

Central placement works for me here.

I would dodge the face a bit more to try and get some more detail out of it.

I find your final comment perplexing? Of course we all appreciate good action. Many of us tend to appreciate a nice portrait as well. You and I have both certainly posted many "portrait" shots here on BPN despite posting action images like this too...we will never discourage posting any kind of image here. If a certain "action" image garners more "comments" than a "portrait" image, it certainly is no absolute measure of which image is "better"...in my experience forum interaction ebbs and flows and feedback on images isn't a sure way of gauging "impact" at the best of times.

    Morkel,

Thanks for your comment, by dodging I presume you mean lightening the face a little?

As to your final paragraph, I am certain you know where I am coming from

An action may make the image a little more interesting but does not make the image technically good. In my opinion a portrait that is technically good is way better than an action image that are technically average or poor. As in here, the colors are not correct on the lioness, as the colors look almost grey, the backlighting is ok but not exceptional (Still something I am trying my hand at and far from perfecting) The eyes lack the punch due of lack of light and I agree with Morkel's suggestion of adding a dodge to make it stand out more. BG is busy and distracting with the brightness on those leaves up in the LUC, maybe try and tone them down a bit (But do understand that its hard in the African bush to get a good clean BG). The Lioness is also lacking detail which in turn makes the image lack in IQ , a bit more PP and improvement in workflow would make the difference...Things going for the image are the little bit of action with the pose and the shape of the tail and the light in the kicked up sand...TFS Ken

    Dumay,

And to think you do not like Gnu

You should know that what you describe as "technical perfection" is not my goal, my goal is capturing wildlife in interesting circumstances.

I fail to see how you can comment on the colours of the Lioness as you were not there, and personally speaking I would not expect them to be anything else than as portrayed as she was running through shade as well as backlit, perhaps I should heve made her more yellow?

Ken - I like the running pose and the kicked up dust adds to the image. Harshad's repost is an improvement IMHO.
