    Default I figured it out

This was my first serious attempt at water drop photography.
It does not compare to being in the outdoors(for me)but it will get the creative juices going.

After I set my "rig" up, I immediately wanted to try something I had not seen before.
So here is my first attempt.

This is a water drop collision into soapy water. Red food coloring used lightly in catch water and very heavily in drop water.
Flashes were fired through the clear plastic catch water pan and under the soap bubbles.

This technique made the water glow and no specular highlights to clean up later!!

    It's a start.

    Nikon D700
    ISO 800 1/200ss @ F18
Flashes set to 1/128 power manually.
    I SB-900 as master and 5 SB-R200s slaves.

I hope "It's a start." means we're going to see more. Did you release the shutter by eye or use a trigger of some sort with an adjustable delay? This sounds like intriguing stuff.

James, great idea to put the flashes under the pan. Soapy bubbles and colors look great! Can't wait to see more.

That is such a cool effect -- it almost looks like an other-worldly creature rising from the froth !

Nice work James! I haven't seen one with bubbles before, it's a great idea!

Cool drop image, James. Very inventive! The BG fade/gradient of bubbles is perfect.

    Dennis,
I used the Cognisys Drop Shot timer. I can adjust all kinds of times.
After experemneting I found I could fire the flash via camera rather than have it fired separately from the camera. Firing the flash with the camera allowed me to use the SB-900's wireless control for my smaller SB-R200 flashes.

    Hi James;

    OOS, as well as OOTB

Your creation is outstanding, and pleasing to my eye with your colors and dreamland fantasy.

    Keep smiling

    Gus

That is very cool looking, James. Interesting, and like color, light glow, and abstract look to the splash.
