I was crouched by a local pond when this swan swam right in front of me, perched, and started to preen. I am interested in your opinions on the comp as I am quite undecided myself. Cropped a bit bottom and right.

I think you should send this to one of the major competitions as they seem to love this kind of shots....

Fantastic detail! You might consider cropping a bit off the top since all the action is in the bottom half. The colors are crisp and the whites are white. I really like it.

I do mean it! Thought the icon might suggest otherwise but can't delete it...

    Grace:

Once I got my self to stop mentally rotating the image 180 degrees, because I suddenly felt upside down, I thought that this has a lot of fun qualities.

Excellent IQ, strong complimentary colors, easily recognizable subject despite the unusual pose.

I appreciate Nancy's idea about a little crop down from the top, but personally I would leave as is, because the very slight start of the curve in the neck at the top makes it easier for me to mentally complete the bird outside the frame. (Now I know for sure I have been looking at way to many bird pictures )

An OOTB crop that works for me!

    Cheers

I thank each of you for weighing in on this. I wasn't sure how minds other than mine would see this. Appreciate your opinions a ton.

It is so ironic that you have posted this picture Grace. I have a similar upside down capture of preening behavior and I felt it was both weird and cool. Glad you posted yours. Love the great colors and details and weird and different is a good thing.
