Default Hi I'm Bob from Ugashik Alaska

    Greetings:
I'm Bob and I'm a retired IBM Systems Engineer. Myself and my bride built our own retirement home in a remote area of Alaska 80 air miles straight south of Katmai park on the Alaska Peninsula. We are at the headwaters of the Ugashik River which is both 30 miles from the Pacific and 30 miles from Bristol Bay. We live there year round and are blessed with exceptional photo opportunities. Plenty of birds, waterfowl, fox, caribou, moose, wolf and just got my first wolverine photo a few days ago. In the summer we have to keep a hot electric fence to keep the bears out of our home. Just started photography earlier this year and this looks like a good place to learn.

    Bob,
    Welcome to BPN!

I have told my wife that if I couldn't live in Florida, Alaska would be my next choice, followed by Louisiana.
That's why I will always live in Florida, she did not necessarily agree with my choices.

    Thank you for the welcome.

Thank you for the welcome. Before we retired my bride and I lived all over the planet and ended up here. It is very addictive. There were places in Africa and South America that had the same magnetism but there is only one Alaska.

Welcome Robert! I used to commercial fish for salmon out of Egegik and Ugashik. We had a cabin up the Egegik river below Becharof Lake. It is beautiful country, and a favorite area of mine. Look forwqard to seeing your posts.

    John:
Thanks for the welcome. You must of had a cabin around the dunes or counting towers. Only about 35 air miles North of me. We live on the second rapids or the outlet of Ugashik Lake or the headwaters of the Ugashik River. Like your avatar. Just got a shot of a pair from my upper deck. Just wish they hadn't been 1000 yards away.
