I took this image of a lion starting to stalk in the early morning. He eventually came to rest less than 2 meters from the vehicle.
    Camera details:
    Canon EOS 1 Ds MkIII
    EF 500mm f4 LUIS
    ISO: 200
    f4
    S/S; 1/1000
Processed on a 15" MBP and using ACR and CS5

Superb Mark, you also got great warm colours and love the stare. Enjoy your trip, hope you get some good sightings this time and have a good festive season.

    Mark,

A lion walking towards you is always a nice opportunity, I might try to tone down the whites in this, just a little

Mark, the beautiful, soft side-lighting really works on this image. The eye contact couldn't be better. I like the muted colors in the OOF background. The subject looks very sharp. I'd like to see less of the OOF foreground, but understand you can't crop much more off the bottom edge without cutting off the subject's virtual feet.

Hi Mark, like the head on POV, lowered head and stare. Colours all look good and work nicely together.

Mark can you tell me where the focus point was, as at f/4 I am surprised to see the fur running down the back to so sharp compared to the face, unless the FP is higher, or the camera is back focusing, or I could just be wrong?

    Cheers

Mark - Nice warm light, low pov and stalking pose. I agree with Steve that the fur on the back looks a little sharper than the face.

Nice image. Good detail, color, nice clean BG, and FG grasses to anchor the pic.

Nice light and POV here Mark...colours look good too.
Do you have a tad more space at the bottom?
I also wonder if a VERY slight rotation here is needed just to get the eyes "level"...

It could also depend on exactly how far the lion was at this stage? Closer focusing distance would mean shallower DOF at f4 as measured in cm/inches...?

Hi to everyone that has posted. Thank you for your posts and comments, it is gratefully appreciated.
Hi Morkel, I do have a little bit more room at the bottom and agree that a little more room at the bottom and and a wee bit of rotation will improve the image.
    Thanks for your help,
    Mark.

Indeed Morkel, hence my question on where the FP was, although Mark could have upped the DOF as SS based on the techs would not have been an issue and enhanced the image even more.
