This young doe briefly stopped running to check the intentions of a buck who appeared rather suddenly out of a clump of bushes across the field behind her. 7D, 1-400L, f5.6, 1/125s, ISO 1000, +1/3 EC, HH, small crop to tighten up.

The attentive sideways glance is well depicted here Steve, nice detail showing with good techs.

    Steve,

Nice look back pose, I am intriqued by the "lump" on her neck

Very nice portrait. Very good sharpness and detail. I really like both foreground and background, gives the image a nice feeling.

Very cool Steve, the side profile of the head is perfect, at right angles to the rest of the body. The almost monochromatic colours of the coat give nice definition/detail, especially around the head & neck., sharpness is spot on here. Is it the breeze, or is the doe moulting, that appears at the top of the front legs? Good choice in slightly tightening up the crop, overall very well presented.

I just wonder if it's the high ISO, or if you eased off on any sharpening (if applied) to the grasses running over the chest making it look very crisp?

Steve - I too like the comp, the fall colors and pose. Nicely done.

Thanks for the comments, they're appreciated.

    Ken,
I think the lump just may be the lay of the fur as she turned her neck.

    Steve,
No breeze this evening and no moulting as the coat is their winter one recently filled in. The area you're seeing is kind of like a cowlick. I see it on almost all my pics of this species. As for the crispy grass, I see I got a little heavy handed with the sharpening in that area.

Beautiful alert pose of this doe in nice winter coat. Good detail, BG, and complementary lighting as well. The warm colors at the feet make her stand out even more. Very nice!

Love the alert pose and low POV here Steve. IQ looks good, though I do note what Steve was referring to around the grasses over the chest.
