Hello, shot this Redhead last spring. I have not seen any of these lately so I thought I would share one. Appreciate any C and C. Thanks for taking the time to look.

A dandy shot Gary. Lovely pose, nice action, sharp where it needs to be at 1/640, and nice clean bg.

Great shot Gary. Like Dave said, sharp where it counts, nice low perspective and beautiful background.

If mine I might clone out the water drop just off the left wing and also the light spot by the right wing.

I really like the color of the water and the eye contact. Ditto on removing the mentioned spots.

    Gary:

A good looking redhead drake, nice BG, sharp central core with blurred wings, good exposure.

I might consider reducing the size of the catch light a bit, it would increase the apparent sharpness of the eye.

    Cheers

Ditto Dave on the sharpness comment. I really like this one so sharp on the head. Nice BKGR. Randy too beat me to the punch; this one needs a bit of Eye Doctor work on the front of the eye....

I really like this image a lot, color and exposure is great, and capturing the wing flap very nicely. I agree with other comments about cleaning up the few spots. Is this cropped at all? I ask because I feel like it could benefit from straightening a bit - i.e. rotated clockwise a few degrees. (Even though there is no horizon line, the dark line going through the reflection seems to be slanting to the left)

Thanks for the comments Christopher. Yes it is cropped a little. I leveled the bottom of the Redhead. Water moving at an angle will not always be square to the camera and I felt it would be stronger having the duck leveled.

Gary, you naield the exposure. very easy to blow some whites. Loved the sharp head, low angle and colors.

Have you dont NR on the BG? If so, you have I think excluded the sharp part of the water....which is what I also always do...but the noise is apparent there and looks a bit odd. Might be worthwhile to do small NR there and then perhaps do a bit sharpening. infact, I am a little surprised to see that noise at that ISO. I am guessing you exposed correctly for the whites, that made the BG dark then you pulled it up in processing. I always face the issue of noise in that situation with 40D files.

Thanks KD, I think you nailed it! Those dark backgrounds are hard to work with. The crop most likely did not help either. I will take a closer look at this image.

    Gary.
