Walking along a local nature trail it suddenly dawned on me that I had not yet photographed the ever dependable Black-capped Chickadees this year. I did have seeds in my bag (I almost always do, just in case), so I took it upon myself to find a good perch and nice background. I just planted this branch right into the ground next to the trail, placed the small plastic bag of black oil sunflower seeds underneath and waited for the inevitable influx of chickadees (and the odd nuthatch) to come to my impromptu outdoor studio :-)
The ground is only a few inches below the frame here, so I was able to get down low and use my elbows braced to the ground for added stability in these low light thus slow shutter speed conditions.
BTW, this was taken two weeks ago and I haven't been able to go out since...meanwhile, since that time, many local photographers have since photographed a tame Purple Sandpiper (very rare up here, since gone), cooperative Greater-white Fronted Goose (very rare, since gone), and approachable Snowy Owl by the river's shores (wanted by everyone, and since gone)...I'm itching for the weekend!!!!
