    Default Blooming Dahlia

A lovely looking photo and I really like the subject. It has lots of different bits and pieces of tones to it. The only suggestion I have would be to do a bit of tone blending on the other not attached leaves and stems.

    Well done.

Dave, thanks a lot for your comments. It was dark, quite much and I had difficulties with matrix metering. I had to switch over to spot metering to get proper exposure on the flower. A little better light would have brought the details of the other leaves.

Hi Prabir and welcome to the Macro forum! You have a nice shooting angle on the flower plus good sharpness and DOF. I think your image would be even stronger with a few tweaks. I would suggest brightening the whole image a little and maybe adding some yellow to the overall color tone to warm things up. As presented, the darkness and blue/green tones give it a bit of a gloomy look. You might also consider cloning the small spots on some of the petals. These minor changes would bring the image up a couple notches. I hope to see more of your work here in Macro!

Yes to welcome and yes to brightening it up quite a bit. Plus a bit less saturation. I do like the image design and your choice of perspective.

Hi Prabir, here's another welcome to Macro!

The critique has already been covered well but here's a suggestion for something to try when shooting a flower in gloomy conditions. If you want to go with that gloomy feeling, try misting the flower with a water spray bottle to make it looks like it's been raining.

Thanks, Ken. That's a good suggestion and I'll surely try it next time I shoot under these conditions.
