Harlequins on the rocks

Here's another image of Harlequin Ducks at Port George, Nova Scotia recently. D300, Tamron 200-500.

Maximum lens aperture: 5.3 APEX = F6.3
Metering mode: Spot

Hard to get the whites right and everything else correct. The lighting was very harsh - hence the shadows. I hope I am learning not to over-sharpen! Any comments welcome.

in harsh light i think the sunny 16 rule might work. set your f/ stop on f/16 and then some exposure compensation for the whites. that would preserve the details in the whites and if you had to brighten the dark areas, you can do so i PS without affecting the whites.

those are beautiful ducks. maybe you could quack at them to get them all to look at you!!

Hi Richard !!! The sunny sixteen would sure work Actually the sunny twenty two in this case With harsh light there is not much you can do Difficult to tame the range !!!!
