As Doug said, its important we try something different with the species we photograph repeatedly. Does this one work for you? I rather like that feather in front of the eye. I have traditional HA but the eye is closed in that shot. I particularly liked how we can see all the different kinds of feathers. Gadwalls sure do have a great set of those.

In my orig capture, I had not blown the whites...but there's very little detail there. I had to save this one at 80% to fit under 250KB.

love the lighting and the soft background. Too bad the beautiful feathers obscured the eye.

I like it eye or no eye. The covered eye adds a bit of mystery for me. And I love the low angle and the chestnut feathers as well as the splayed feathers around the head. (Are those tertials???)

Everything looks great, I would just prefer to see the eye even if only partially (does not mean I don't like it as is!). You are right, when repeatedly photographing the same subjects experimenting then becomes a fun option to try...

This is cool but not for me by that one feather. The detail is wonderful but I can't help thinking that seeing that eye would have really made it special.
The cyans in the water are a bit too intense for me nbut that's fixed more easily than the eye :)

Oooh, I miss the eye. The details in the feathers are incredible and the BG is "to die for". I also love the lines created by the bent neck but I still miss the eye,

Sharp with excellent detail, light, colours, BG. However I am afraid that not being able to see the eye kills it for me...

Stunning colors, detail, love the feel of this. Almost an abstract quality. Do wish I could see the eye, but I would still keep and enjoy this!

Nice low angle, excellent feather details but I miss the eye. Other than that is a high quality picture, Kaustubh.

Wonderful image. The feather display is just amazing, real nice detail, great shooting angle ( like always ), sweet background too. The more I look at I really love this and don't mind not seeing the eye. A totally new perspective.
    Well done.

Hi KD, I agree trying something different is always a challenge on what response you will receive. I like this lots. Excellent detail throughout, and the feather placement over the eye shows it 'could have been on purpose as a form of shyness' Just love the soft light and pastel colours, and your usual low angle works wonders.

Fantastic IQ, comp and low angle. This feather hiding the eye definitely works for me for the reason Stu mentioned. I like this one a lot Kaustubh.

I think this really works. If bird are indeed "art", this is abstract-bird-art.
