Squatter Pigeons are ground dwelling and nesting species and have suffered greatly to change in habitat from agricultural pursuits and predation losses. The bird depicted is of the northern race and is not considered threatened however the southern race is threatened. The species was a first for me and I was lucky to get a mating display on my second session.

Very cool looking bird, Rod, awesome pose, like the detail, coloring, and surrounding habitat. Great you were able to get the mating display. Well done!

great photo that nicely displays the habitat, it's a bit soft as presented and needs more sharpening something like this...it will look much better if you start from RAW. TFS

Thank you all for your comments. Arash, I am puzzled - you said: ".it will look much better if you start from RAW. TFS " as I never take anything but RAW??

Magnificent portrait and habitat shot, Rod. The extra sharpening brings it over the top. Beautiful job!

Good looking bird and really like the habitat. Repost adds to photo and good idea about a catchlight.

Rod, lovely display, and love the hint of colour in the near wing. I like what Arash has done.

Like the extra sharpness and great bird - I have not seen this species yet. I like the pose with the raised tail.
