    I was shooting against water and terrestial background, trying out using sorrounding AF points. (C.Fn III. 8. 2.)
    It worked most of the time, but now I'm back to single point again.

    I like the green background here, we so often see sky or water BG for the gulls.

    Nice dorsal display, angle in frame, crop.

    There is good contrast in the feathers, but the IQ is a little soft. May be a matter of more sharpening only. How big of a crop was this?

    Looks like someone has been munching on his primaries

    I think the BG is really nice, sets the bird off very well.
    The feather detail is nice and the gull is colored nicely.
    It does look like a big crop, but maybe just a downsizing file issue?

    I like the pose and the background is gorgeous. I think the bird is a bit too dark and the contrast a little too high. In particular the darkness and contrastiness (real word?) of the bird's brown coverts and secondaries doesn't look natural to me for this species.
