I was looking back through some images to get a few for a presentation and found this one of a male ruby-throated hummingbird sitting on an old electric fence wire from the spring before last that I thought I'd share.

Nikon D70, Nikkor 600 mm w/Sakar 2x teleconverter and 25 mm extension tube, f/9ish, 1/60th second, ISO 400, tripod, cropped to about 60% of frame for composition.

I considered cloning out the piece of spider web hanging off of the bird's right wing, but did not do it on this image.

Hi Robert from a tech point it is amazing !!!! A non VR 600 with a 2X at 1/60th and 60% crop !!!! Excellent tripod technique !!!!

I like the pose and bg a lot Good looking bg Could go slightly brighter (just a bit) but is more a mater of taste. Sharpness can not say it is "critically" but do feel is a sharp image!! Also like the little extra space to the right

btw since it is on an electric fence will need to move it to hand of man !!! Very fine image Robert !!!!

    Lovely little bird.
There's a hint of a feather on his right side that can be cloned out if it's OK with your ethics.
    Thanks for sharing it.

I am impressed with the results given the techs. I really like the colors and especially the complimentary BG. If you had not mentioned that the perch was wire I would have assumed that it was a very thin branch. Well done.

Wonderful head angle. The head could use a nit of selective sharpening. Whaddy gotta do to get the bright red gorget???
