I finally got a chance to go through some more of my water blur images from Yellowstone last fall. I really liked the assorted colors and the flow. I am on the fence about the white highlights and would like to hear your thoughts. Thanks. I never add a border but I really liked the way it held the composition inside the frame.

Reason: EXIF ADDED
I'm not sure about the white highlights, either (assuming you mean the two in the extreme upper right and the three toward the lower left). If they were smoother, they'd seem compatible with the rest of the image, and I think I'd like that better. However, your eye is exceptional in catching many things I'd probably miss. If you hadn't asked, I'd probably not have thought a thing about it.
As for the rest of the image ... I really like it. The tonal ranges of both the blues and oranges and the way they mix together is very effective. I like the way you composed it, too, with the transition from the tree trunks to the leaves (???) occurring where it does. Adding a border was a good idea for this image, I think. My eye seems to want to go there, though, and I wonder if just a very small amount lighter would make a difference.
Greetings. Really like the blue-orange color contrast. Not wild about the white (if only there were a bit more and compositionally consistent)... the top ones are too close to the top of the frame, IMO, anyway.
Thanks guys for sharing your thoughts.
Dennis, Thanks. I created one that was a touch lighter and I went back and forth but kept coming back to the darker one. Yikes!
Mitch, Thank you kindly.
Michael, Thanks, good point about the ones at the top edge.
Denise, I love the sunset colors in the water. I think they make the white highlights less noticeable and I don't mind them a bit in this image. Those highlights are always a problem when the sun is on the water. I wonder if you could work on the image large and try evicting them.
Good morning, Denise. LeHardy Rapids was one of my favorite "let's take a short hike after work" places when I worked two summers at the Lake Hotel in the late mid/late 70's. It was only about three miles from Fishing Bridge and was just a stunning place to sit and watch the sunset...or to wake up to and watch the sunrise...and there was always a lot of activity early in the summer when the cutthroat were moving. I love the rich palette of warm and cool color tones...the soft, almost sensual curves and lines by the blurred water...if it were mine, I'd evict the white highlights, or blur them; my eye is constantly drawn to them. Great image...makes me want to head back there...I haven't been to the park for over 30 years.
GREAT Frame, though I would make the black frame little wider ... but ... Y.I.Y.V. as they sometimes say!
My eye is drawn to one spot however, in the lower left ... while I presume you didn't, it appears like you cloned the white in darker blue area about 1/4 up from the bottom of the image. Don't know why, but it keeps pulling in there and it appears rougher than the rest of the image. Other than that, nice ...
Thanks John and Mark, I am bringing it into PS for another look at the highlights.
Mark, no cloning but I will take a close look at that area you mention.
John, I truly enjoyed my time at LeHardy Rapids and having Art Morris along was a special treat. We both enjoyed the water blurs and colors.
I like this one, Denise. Love the rich color, light glow, and flow of the blur. I would vote to remove the highlights. Nicely done! Enjoyment is always a good thing, and it sure is better than the alternative.
