Here's an old one from 2004 that I just reprocessed. I cloned out some white grass stalks.

Lovely shot I love the pose and the surroundings. It does look rather yellow to me - is that the light?

Nice Habitat. You were maybe too close to get the beak in focus?
I like the colors a lot.

Great image - placement of the head in the open space is nice. Love the low angle and grass. Calling pose and open beak is also great - the bottom part of the beak does look soft -do they move the beak when calling? Flash? Have you thought about a digital workflow ebook - I would love to get an insight as to how you process your images. Maybe a tad yellow all round.

I find this image has a very yellow/green cast. I love the fact that you have such a good view of this rail because they are usually so shy and hide in grasses most of the time. I see a bit of a halo around the top of the beak as well.
What does "playback" mean in your exif info?

Colors look pretty good on my monitor. I just love this capture, Alan. Awesom calling pose and the yellow flowers just make it pop.

You guys are right on the yellow. Thanks. I should have walked away for a few minutes after I processed it. Here's a repost. Is that better?

Hey Gail, "Playback" means that I used a recording of a Clapper Rail and played it back. Thanks.

Hey Tom, Yes, the lower mandible moves when they sing, and that is why it's a bit soft. Thanks for the question on my workflow, buy as for an eBook, I feel there are many that are far better than me at processing, but I appreciate the compliment.

Alan, your repost may be the correct colour, but I actually like your OP - maybe something in between. I like how you have captured the rail in the open, together with the leaning pose.

Gorgeous image...I liked the OP. I would maybe have gone somewhere between the 2. Great IQ and love the environment!

Alan, the respot rocks. low angle, pose and habitat take this several nothces up. liked how the Bg is smooth behind the head. One heck of a shot....esp. considering the species.

I'd also like colour balance to be somewhere in the middle of the two versions posted.

A beautiful setting with a numbers of layers of vegetation that make it very appealing.
