    Default Peeking Doe

Didn't even see this doe until she raised her head above this chest high rabbitbrush. I think she was hiding from a large, amorous buck that was also in the area. I liked the cottony look of the plant heads and the clean BG (a pond reflecting gray, cloudy skies). 7D, 400DO+1.4xTC, f6.3, 1/2000s, ISO 500, +2/3 EC, HH, cropped.

Like the eye contact and the way the head is popping up from the rabbitbrush. Also like that little bit of white in the eye.

This is an interesting image, nice colour and texture to the plant which is a good surround for the deer. I find the little dots in the background distracting, probably bugs or something.

Steve - I like this. Good detail and the brush is a nice and different environment. I would clone out the bugs near the head.

Hi Steve, like the way the head is emerging from the plants. The overcast day has also help re the BKG, but you could also try the 'Hi Key' look to punching out the BKG which also has a pleasing effect IMHO (let me know if you want to see a variation of it). Although the bugs do give the image more substance leaving the in or out is your call, but certainly the 'grey' OOF areas could go, offering a cleaner BKG, leaving just the cottony plant heads.

Looks like you used DPP, just check the final working space output, as it appears to be Canon rather than Adobe?

Steve, I like the "pop up" expression on the doe, and the rubber rabbitbrush fading to the rear. Not bothered at all by the apparent bugs, or BG color, but it might be interesting to see Steve K's version of hi key BG. I kept coming back to this one.

Hi Steve, how large are those ears. Lovely concentrated stare, and Im fine with the lighter overcast BG. I also like the different shades on her head. Cheers.
