Photographed some bighorns in Georgetown, Colorado. I know the background is not the best, but I kind of like the droolThanks for looking.

I like the drool too. I also like the breath vapor and snowflakes that tell me how cold it was. I would select the bright whites in the BG and tone them down a bit to be less distracting. The comp works for me as well,

Dan, nice portrait and it was great to meet you today. The vapor may prevent it, but could you do a bit of selective sharpening on the eyes? The drool makes this shot!
Hi Dan,
Very nice portrait. I agree about toning down the background and some sharpening on the eyes. Did you see any rams butting heads?
I haven't been up to Georgetown in a couple of years. Was this recent and do you know if they are still there? In another week, I'll have recovered enough from a recent surgery that I can lift heavy lenses again. If you go up next weekend drop me an email the night before; it might inspire me to go. In the past I've gotten there a little before 7:30 am as that is about the time the sun usually peaks over the mountains and into the valley.

Thanks for the comments!
Impressive ram in rut. He has the look. The drool is a great touch. Agree on toning down BG, and a bit of sharpening to the eyes.
Dan,
I can only agree with the previous comments, what a magnificent animal![]()
Hi Dan, I like the 'portrait' feel, with the hint of slight snow fall setting the scene and OOF BG gives the sense of shooting within a heard, flock...
Personally I feel the image looks a little flat, with not too much depth to it, which is unlike you.By increasing in Curves, Levels and some selective colour (basicaly in relation to the blacks) it does give the image 'puch' and that to me is what, overall, the image needs. With the DOF you will not get the nose to eyes sharp I think, but certainly some more sharpening on the muzzle it does bring out more detail and the drool. Also, and this is how far do you take things. but a slight CW (0.88) just rounds things off, as the eyes & horns are then level.
Hope this helps.

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.
Love the wide eyes and the drool, haven't ever seen them do that before. Also like the bluish-gray color of the BG and the flakes of snow. Just needs a touch more sharpening for my taste.
Thanks again for the comments and the advice.
