    Default Savuti Elephant Sunset Drink

    Attached Images Attached Images

Canon 1Dmk3, Canon 70-200f/4.0 IS, handheld. S/s 1/500s at f4, iso 400. Cropped, processed in ACR and CS5. Location Savuti bush camp, Botswana. Taken at sunset, when this bull elephant came to the river to drink. I was not able to get low enough to create a stronger silhouette, so chose to make use of the gold line of reflection. I took the shot as the elephant lifted his trunk towards the reflection. I would have preferred to have a clean skyline behind the elephants back but there was not time to move nor keep the reflection as I wanted it...
    All c and c welcome

Grant - Light is beautiful and the reflection of the sun great. I also like the trunk position. While I agree that a clear bg would have been better, I don't mind the bg as is.

This is a lovely image. I like the body position of the elephant. I have no issues with the BG. I love the pale pink orange of the sky. What I like most though is that the exposure for the elephant is perfect- not too dark and not too light. Wish this was mine,

Grant, I also agree with your self critique on the BG, but the light, and color on the water is lovely. Also like the elephant's pose, and detail in the near tusk.

Hi Grant, fond memories, all you need is the hippo soundtrack to go with it.

The evening light can through things off a tad, especially when you start to get colour in the Elephant, if you know what I mean. My hippo threat right at the peak of 'sundowners is so red it looks false, but that is how it is. You could bump up the colour & drop some of the cast in the Ele, but I think it looses something.

Sorry, meant to add, a slight fraction of CW might also help.
