Default Drying up : Cheetah Style

Missed their kill in the morning by around 10 minutes . In the evening they were around 300 mts away and the access road was blocked by park authorities . While the guide was clear he had to be back because of the rain and failing light , I had a gut feeling that the brothers would approach us . After a long wait of 20 minutes , the three brothers finally yielded and approached us . By that time there were around 40-50 safari vehicles lined up . Was lucky to get a good vantage point and get these beauties . Here , he was drying up cheetah style . I had to up the ISO considerably to compensate for the failing light .

    Camera : 1D Mk III
    Lens : 600mm f4 IS
    Shutters : 1/640
    Aperture : f 7.1
    ISO : 3200

    Cheers,
    Rakesh

Rakesh, love those drops of water. Distinctly un cheetah like tummy! That feed they had must have been a good one...

    Well captured animal behaviour. TFS.

Your wait paid off. A type of behavior shot we don't see all the time.

You captured the shake and the droplets very well here Rakesh...nice IQ for the ISO and good moment captured.
50 safari vehicles sounds like the kind of buzz I try to avoid, is the traffic that high in the Mara?

Well that is quite a spray. Action well captured and great detail and exposure on the coat.

Great light and I really like the spray coming off the head.

Nice detail and great timing to get the head shake and keep it sharp. Love the color of the surrounding greens.

Agree with all that it's a good one, with the action frozen nicely while keeping a dynamic feel. I wouldn't have expected 1/640 to be enough to capture this action with so little obvious blur. Is it actually enough or is this a sharp one among less sharp ones?

@Morkel... Around the "stars" and the crossings, in high season, a battery of photographers like at the Oscars - yes, it can be that bad. But it doesn't have to be that bad.
