Great action. LIke how you have a clear shot of both eyes. Like the water between the mouth as well.

This is just an amazing display of behavior, Pieter. The only way this could have been better is had the other hippo not been in the BG but that obviously could not have been helped here. Just a great moment captured!!!!

Love the action frozen here and also the angle of approach.
Not always possible, but an angle slightly from the left could have eliminated the bg hippo. Great capture, nonetheless !

Love the low angle and those teeth are so large. Great job capturing this at the right moment.

Fantastic action shot! One of the best Hippo photos I have seen.
The BG hippo is nitpicking IMO, you get the shot you can get and this is superb.
    Those teeth are amazing.

Nicely done Pieter; action, drama, detail … the whole package. Perfection would have meant no background hippo, but we don't always need perfection to admire and enjoy an image!

One of my "bucket list" sightings, Pieter! Where in Kruger was this??
Lovely 'frozen action' here, and the angle is great as I know how high one can often sit relative to the water in this Park.
Kiran's got a point on what you could have done to eliminate the BG hippo, but a fine capture nonetheless!

Thank you all for your kind comments, much appreciated.

Morkel this was at Sunset Dam, I was able to park on the lower level on the right and was photographing a Heron and Cormorant vying for position on top of a Hippo when these two erupted. Short lived action and sometimes you get lucky.

That about says it for me too. Now I know why you do not go swimming in the rivers over there!

Nice shot Pieter. IQ and light are nice, you got some good eye contact and I like the opening between the two and how the tusks appear almost interlocked.
