Great looking bird and a nice perch.
Maybe just a tad off the top, but the BG is so nice, fine as is.

Love the painterly feeling to this, Ken. I like the perch too, how it mirrors the shape of the bird. Beautiful colors and great IQ. Slightly better HA would have been nice but I think it's a lovely photo as is. TFS.
Melissa beat me to the punch - ditto her comments on all counts. Great capture of this amazing bird. If you're keeping the full height as posted I might be tempted to remove the small yellow-green patch in the far URC, but that's a minor nit.
Really nice image Ken, love the comp and perch and the complimentery colors in the BG. Only suggestion would be to selectively lighten the eye area so it stands out just a tad more.

Hi Ken, I feel this is one of your best to date. I like the IQ, light, detail and sharpness, and what a killer BG. Good DOF on the hornbill too. Comp wise, if you have more room below, I would add to the bottom, and take at least half off the top.
Loved it. The perch and BG are just perfect
I have looked at this image a couple of times and I really like it. Melissa said there was a "painterly" aspect to it, I agree. Part of me is saying it is a bit like a painting and part of me is saying I wonder what it would look like with a little more sharpening. I think either way it would look great. Just for interest have you done anything special in the processing to achieve this effect?
Excellent image Ken! I like the pose, perch and BG.
Love the IQ and the perch , also the BG . I did manage a shot of this beauty , but in a tree top . Wonder why they are named so. Can't see a 'crown' on their head !!
Wonderful image. Great pose, really like the background and perch.
Well done.
Very nice perch very well captured.
nice simple and clean image..
Nice setting ken bhai..![]()
Ken, nice. the bird, pose, HA, DOF, perch, BG separation...well done on all counts.
Just back from a very short trip to UK.
Thanks everybody for your kind comments they are much appreciated, I'll take a look at the crop as for the name I have no idea as to where Crowned comes from, but it may be the large "casque" on the top of the bill.
Ken, one more question. Is it also called "Bradfield's Hornbill (Tockus bradfieldi)"?
The difference is probably in the length of the beak. But it becomes difficult to identify at times.
I also have 2 pics of Bradfield's Hornbill/Crowned Hornbill taken at Luangwa valley. So I would like to compare and confirm.
Thanks.
Hi Prabir,
I am no expert on Bird ID but I can assure you that Bradfield's and Crowned are two distinct species In all probability what you saw in South Luangwa was a Crowned as Bradfields are mostly limited to the far north of Namibia and Botswana, and there are always plenty in Hwange, Zimbabwe. Here is a link to a Bradfield's I posted earler

I hope this helps
