This is a shot I got the other day just outside of the RV Resort where we stay. Can't say I like the clipped branches.

    Hey Bryan!

I like the composition actually, you have the bird in a pretty good spot. It could use a little crop here and there. The bigger issue is this is overexposed. Look at your histogram, it is stuck against the right side of the graph area indicating overexposure. Not sure if that happened in camera or post processing? You don't want a peak to be stuck against the right side of the graph area, Your settings don't look too bad actually (although better would be sunny 16 in this case, ISO 200, f8, 1/800) so I am a little stumped that is why I am wondering if this is because of post processing.

Thanks George. I checked back to the NEF file. The bird and the branches were a little lighter on it but there was a tinge of blue in the sky. However there were some badly OOF branches that looked more like lines running down through the entire image so I Deleted the backgroung. Tried putting in a better sky but it didn't look good around the tips of the branches. Does that make any sense?Bryan

    Hey Byan!

OK that is another piece of the puzzle! ;)

Maybe the contrast is too harsh also on the bird and branches

Here is a screen cap of the image in PSCS3...look at the histogram on the right side, pinned up against the right.

Get your exposure such that that right side peak is not pinned against that right side wall and you will be in better shape here!!

Hi Bryan I like the points George made !! Very solid

Regarding the histogram It would be ok to overexpose the bg and make it a high key image The reds is something else They are over exposed and over saturated The saturation part is just what the camera seems to do with the reds Routinely we de-saturate the reds Does make them look more realistic

Try going after the birds in softer light Difficult to make much happen with harsh light

Interesting! I went back and checked the NEF file and the histogram was no where near the right side but did go through the roof toward but not near the right side. It looks like I messed up in post production.
