Taken on my trip to the Sabi Sands, South Africa in August 2009. I thought the additional circle of pigment in the eye is interesting, not sure what caused it.

Luminosity mask, levels adjustment and sharpened in CS5. I also applied the sharpening action posted by Morkel.

    C&C welcome & appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel,

What a great capture, a "cutey" plus the eyes and pupils are totally visible, a rarity in images of this animal.

Got to love the tongue as well.

On my monitor I see a very slight magenta cast and I think a minute amount of smart sharpen might help.

Not to sure that there is much difference but I'll leave it attached.

For me, needs a bit more contrast. Here is, bit of magenta removed, sharpened, contrast added with "Levels" (right side) slider.

Hi Rachel, like the fact that you have enough dof here for the whole head to be in focus, and the shot has tons of detail in it. You also did well to get it this sharp shooting at a relatively slow s/s. Given the amount of detail, and also colour in the cheetahs eyes, I might be tempted to crop a little off the right side, bottom and top just to bring even more emphasis to the cats face. Nicely done here.
    cheers

Thanks all for the comments. I'm curious though because I'm not seeing the magenta cast on a recently calibrated monitor but I am seeing a slightly green cast in Tom's repost particularly on the top of the head. So would like to know what others see and if there is a problem with my recent calibration.

Grant - I'll take a look at the suggested crop.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

    Rachel,

Seems that colour cast is a problem for many, may I ask what browser you are using?

Ken - I'm using IE primarily but also looked at it in Firefox.

    Thanks,

In that case it must be my monitor, I broke my calibrator and am awaiting the new one in the post, normal service will be resumed as soon as possible

I'll gave to admit my adding tiny bit green makes very little difference. I also use Firefox 3.6.
This color balance thing is very subjective. Especially when trying to adjust for source light color temperature, cloudy, direct sunlight, golden hours, etc. So I would not be concerned about it for this image, either way looks good to me. But I do like it brightened some as I did. And do very much like the eye detail. (maybe sharpen its right eye a bit more?)

Lovely portrait here Rachel. I cannot comment on colour as I am not on my ideal screen at the moment.
I do like the detail and especially the eye! Could stand a hint more sharpening as mentioned. When I apply the action, I try to strike a good balance between the opacity of the sharpening layers and adding some additional selective sharpening where needed.

Hi Rachel , what a lovely portrait. The subtle light has brought out excellent detail and for me the eyes make it - well captured. I like your OP and have difficulty in seeing the colour cast mentioned.

Nicely detailed and processed picture. The OP looked fine to me.

Hi Rachel, good to see you revisiting old files and applying your additional knowledge now in PS to pull out the image. I agree, OP looks fine, however I might suggest just opening it up a tad in levels, than adding some sat @ about 80% just to give it some 'pop'.

If you have the time also see about an alternative crop as per Grants suggestion, but not sure about loosing any more off the bottom.
