Alfredo, I feel this is the best angle of all your previous posts of the guy, as it shows the detail and colours nicely. You have reasonable sharpness for such a low ss, but Im not sure if another round of sharpening will work. Thanks for sharing.

Really nice. I love the bright red bill. It is something it is so sharp at 1/30 while the bird is trying to down the fish.

    Hey Arthur,
first of all is a honor that some of the best photographers out there are critiquing my photo..
Well, the birds are in a pier here in peru.. there are about 40 of them and are REALLY tame.. i mean if you want you can get as close as 30cm away from them..
Glenn B. and i may be going there next week.
    hope that helps.

    Alfredo:

Love the curved white feathers, bold colors in the bill and gape, prey item.

Just a bit tight on the right and top for my tastes.

You could consider toning down a few of the specular highlights on the bill from the flash.

    Cheers

Thanks Alfredo. Is the pier in Lima or far from it?

For the image: you did a good job with a potentially awkward composition. The image needed lots of sharpening..... For the repost I did lots of bill and fish clean up work (Patch Tool, Spot Healing Brush, and a few warped and transformed Quick Masks) as well as some Eye Doctor work. All as detailed in Digital Basics (plus my complete digital workflow and dozens of great Photoshop tips).

Ideally the head would have been turned a bit more towards you.

ps: posting at 1024 wide just a bit less than 200 kbs would yield the best quality JPEG.

I already have your DB, but my photoshop isnt working.. using only lightroom 3.
The pier is in a private Club 10 minutes away from lima. If you ever come to Peru, give me a call, i can take you in.

Many thanks. What months are best? Any other birds to photograph around Lima? Any place to photograph them on rocks? Where do they breed? Good luck with getting Photoshop running and with studying DB . Thanks also for your purchase.

    I just love Inca Terns!

This portrait is my favorite of your Inca Tern series. I like Artie's clean-up, and I agree that a better HA would have elevated this image even higher. More room above and right could be an option, but nice as is.

I dont know about the months.. ive seen them year round. For other birds is really nice the feb-mar time as there are lots of migrating species.. other species i know where to photograph are Peruvian Thick-Knee, Peruvian Sheartail and Humboldt Penguins. In the same spot you can get them on rocks and they breed on the pier.

any other questions, just ask me please.

Thanks for sharing your shots of this beautiful Tern. I like this one especially, and Artie's repost helps. I'd also vote for just a bit more room at the top and right.
