I have only ever seen the behaviour by Carmine Bee-eaters in the Savute area of Chobe National park. Whilst driving along the Carmines follow the car trying to pick up insects thrown up by the vehicle, as soon as you stop do do they.

As a result it is necessary to try to get your shot hand-held from the moving vehicle, great fun and sometimes you get one in frame.

Excellent image! Sharp, nice pose and BG. Just converted to sRGB and removed the dark areas infornt of the bird and on the top right - do you see a difference in colours on your screen?

    Ofer,

Yes I see a difference but still fail to see how the PS function in which I select SRGB does not seem to work. I use this method as I was advised that it was best by a good friend and photigraper (no names)

How do you figure out the colour space of the OP?

    Cheers

Hi Ken, I can tell when I see a photo that wasn't saved as sRGB as colours are dull. Doug will be able to tell you how to do it properly as we had this discussion in the past and he had a great explanation.

Beautiful capture Ken, crisp, great exposure and comp. I do prefer Ofer's repost, colors look richer.

Beautiful colours. Lovely exposure and composition. I'll call him the "Mask of Zorro" for the black band on his eyes....

Ken, good flying posture with the raised wings, and nicely separated from the BG. There is a clear difference in the SRGB repost of Ofer's, and I would maybe move him back to the right a touch.

    Here is that discussion. http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...d=1#post707222

Great pose, light and sharpness. Bee-eaters are always difficult to frame as they are moving quite fast. I see some noise at the under-wings that can be easily handled. The repost from Ofer seems a little brighter on my monitor.

    Ken,

Nice image. The original image is untagged. In photoshop in the save fir web tool, there is a check box to convert to sRGB.

In firefoc, an untagged image is assigned sRGB so to me both colors in the original and in Ofer's repost look the same (excluding the dark area edits).

Thanks everybody for your helpful comments on the colour space issue.

It appears that in converting I have forgotten to tick the tag box to "embed" the profile SRGB, I will now do that.

I had not realised it could change the appearance depending on the browser you are using, as I use Firefox, which as I understand it is colour managed.

I think I now understand where some past critiques have originated, the simple answer would be for everybody to use Firefox, it is free and better, and was recommended to me by a good friend

Thanks everybody for your comments on the image, it was fun to do and fun to watch, if anybody had videoed our antics I am sure we would have looked very silly indeed

    Ken,
A beautiful bird captured and exposed very well, Love the upbeat wing stroke as it appears as if its hovering or floating. The rich colors are set off nicely by the soft green BG. well done!
