I don't see any other lens of any focal length with that good of performance (I'm referring to the bare lens black (wide open), thin lines (finest line pairs).
I have read on some other forums that the 500 II and the 600 II will not be shipping until March or April of 2012 now due to continuing problems for manufacturing overseas. I was really hoping they would show up this year.
I have my name down with my Photodealer for a new 500mm and as of 2 weeks ago Canon is telling him maybe around the first 2 weeks of December for shipment.
Maybe that has changed since.
I have been a very GOOD boy all year so my backup plan will have to depend on Santa if Canon falls thru!
Sorry for getting everyone's hopes up. I spoke to the Canon dealer this morning and the lens he received was a 400mm f/2.8. I did ask him however to hound his Canon rep for any news on either of these lenses. It truly is amazing how much of an impact the Tsunami and floods are having! I don't think I'd be a buyer of Canon stock at this time.
I just purchased a new 500 I to tide me over the winter as I had sold all my long lenses in anticipation of the the new 500/600’s coming out. The news just does not seem good. I was also at a photo show over last weekend and the Canon reps there said that shipment is severely impacted by the natural events in Japan. Lets hope for the best!
Anyone have the new 600mm II?
