    Default White Pelican

Hello everyone. Well I have heard that these magnificent birds stop by here while migrating. I have never ever seen one so when I was driving by a local lake and saw a huge white body in the water I was excited. Got off the car pulled out my camera and to my surprise pelicans. 8 of them to be exact. They where pretty far but still excited. I said to my self if only one of them would fly over to the small lake I would have a chance at some decent pics. Well to my luck the next day one of them was in the small lake. Pulled out my gear and started shooting away. Here is a shot from that morning.

Robert, good exposure, head turn and calm water.

If you visit Dallas before March end, drop me a pm. We have a good spot for white pelicans here.

    Robert:

    Fun story!

With this head angle, you have several options on the comp. I like it as is, but you could go horizontal as well, esp. if you have some extra canvas on the right.

The reflections isn't strong, but I think it adds to the picture.

Good choice on f/stop, you need a lot of DOF for this big guys.

    Cheers

I like your pov, Robert, its unusual and eye-catching. Great story too.
We just got back from Malheur NWR in Southeastern Oregon - to my surprise and delight there were hundreds of white Pelicans on their way
    to Texas, I assume :)

I can feel your excitement when you see a species that you dont often see, or dont have any shots of them in your files. Well exposed, and I like the water's reflection cast on the body. This comp works, but as Randy stated, a horizontal would work too. I feel a tiny, tiny touch of CCW rotation is needed.

Loved your story, and I can only agree with the comments above. I just photographed two new species for me this weekend...the feeling never gets old

    Robert,
A terrific image, love the soft pastel colors of the water near and the richness farther back all set off by the perfectly exposed whites. just beautiful.
