Default Henslow Sparrow on Curly Dock

Here in Ohio, We are blessed to have these birds, I am even more blessed to have these birds nesting during summers less than 5 minutes from my home at a site that Once housed the Richfield Coliseum and where as a Kid watched many Globe Trotter games. This area Now is home to many grassland species during summer. Including these guys " Henslow Sparrows"... These birds sing day and nite once they come onto territory. There seclusive birds for the most part, but on windless days and a patient approuch they can often be cooperative.

Hope you enjoy! C&C always welcome!

Hey Dan - beautiful image! I know this bird! What a cooperative guy he was. Great perch and background. Nice pose and detail. Wonderful image of a not-so-common species.

    Dan :

Beautiful image, sharp, well exposed, nice perch and BG.

As a tiny thing, I might tone down the top of the brown grass on lower right, it jumps out at me just a bit much and distracts my attention from the bird.

    Cheers

What a lovely image, Dan. The bird is beautifully set off by a complimentary perch and smooth background. I don't recall ever seeming an image of this species, thanks for sharing this beauty.

eveything is nice here....the exposure, perch, HA, BG, alert pose. Very well done. not an easy one to nail.

If mine, I'd exclude the tail from sharpening as it is looking a tad oversharpened.

Hi Dan, cool looking perch for the sparrow perched high and mighty. Excellent exposure, and good use of your beamer. The little guy is sharp, lovely natural colours, and set against a killer soft BG. If you have more space below, I would add a touch more below - create a slightly longer vertical, pushing the sparrow even higher in the frame.

Great shot and I love the perch. This certainly is a tough one to get a good image of.

Great image of any bird, based on the perch, background and pose, Dan.
Being a Henslow Sparrow that I saw only through a spotting scope makes my heart beating faster.

No kidding cooperative species of bird Dan! I remember shooting these guys well with you and Jim. So much fun it was. Great full body pose you captured of him, I especially like the brown curley dock you got in this particular one. Ones I have the curley dock is all green still. The brown definately separates it more so from the BG. The BG I find interesting as well. The multi soft colors painted in the BG look great.

Hey Dan, I can see why the judges chose this image for "Best of Show" in this year's photography contest at North Chagrin...well deserved! That great oof grass BG, interesting perch and above all...a Henslow's Sparrow, all in great light makes for a winner. Even though it was a cooperative subject, I know you worked hard for it.

What a beautiful portrait, Dan. I could get lost in the detail on that sparrow. Beautiful colors, BG, and comp. You've done a wonderful job here.
