I have been "working" this gator for nearly 6 months and still trying to get that portfolio shot. Getting closer(literally). Cropped to 8x10, full frame vertically.

I think you should keep the sky and do a mask to tone down the blue cast in the water. Otherwise, a very cool shot.

"Nature Interpreted" - Photography begins with your mind and eyes, and ends with an image representing your vision and your reality of the captured scene; photography exceeds the camera sensor's limitations. Capturing and Processing landscapes and seascapes allows me to express my vision and reality of Nature.
Jay,
I think the blue cast is from the reflection of sky in the water. From the shutter speed I guess image was taken in low light condition and this might have added little more blue to the image..
Paul,
Excellent composition and perfect subject placement. Brilliant work as usual.

Paul,
For me at least a very different shot, it has an "eerie" feeliing to it, probably because of the subject.
The only thing I might like to see is a tad more space at the bottom.
Liked this lot

Great idea and execution - really is a bit unsettling. Maybe a little space and something like reeds in the foreground (okay, maybe you can't work him that much!) but I do like it very much as it is. The blue is good. Would also love to see similar in different tones on different days, but blue makes a statement to me.
Although I really love the concept here and have been paying close attention to your gator shots over the last few months, this one is not one of my favorites. I like it, but I don't love it and I think it's b/c it's just too much blue for me personally.
Good to see you posting here again Paul...
I love this series of yours...and my you are getting a little too close for comfort at 20mm on a FF camera.
I like the eerie feel here and the blue actually works well as it represents both the apparent conditions/time of day this was taken in as well as a sombre mood.
I like the composition a lot, it is a super shot for me. The blue colour is a bit too overpowering for me to take as natural, but I understand where it comes from. I would like to see a version of this shot with some of the blue taken out and a more natural colour approach...
Good work with getting the shot.
