Had a chance to photograph this species at a nesting spot earlier this year. Their colors are simply breathtaking, especially in good light.

    Hi Marina,

You are totally correct in the right light this birds colours are a wonder, and certainly in my experience very difficult to capture. You have done a great job here with a rreally good pose.

Strangely enough, I took a what I think is a rather nice wading shot recently in Zimbabwe which also shows off the colours very nicely.

    Marina:

Excellent job showing the subtle color palette. I have never gotten a really good image of this. Like the pose, composition and feet.

Agree about a bit more sharpening on the head.

    Cheers

Awesome pose and great colours! I do wish the shadow on the body wasn't so dark (but I do realize these guys can look almost black in shade) and I agree with more sharpening to the head and face area. Nice comp!

Great image of one of my favorite species. I like the landing pose and the light which reveals the magic colors of the bird. TFS

The light really helped you bring out the beautiful iridescence of these birds Marina. Like the landing pose. Another vote for a little more sharpening.
