    Default Angry Matriarch

This African Elephant matriarch was not impressed by us when the herd suddenly appeared next to the road and we were in their way.

Captured in the far north of the Kruger National Park, South Africa.

    Techs:
    Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II + 1.4xTC @ 110mm
    f4.0 @ 1/400 SS @ ISO-800
The setting sun cast her in gold on the RHS
95% of full frame, cropped for rotation
I wish the branch wasn't in the top left of the frame...

One is never sure with the Ellies in Kruger, although most of them are pretty chilled. Well timed to capture the moment, and I like your choice of comp.

Really like the vertical comp here and the action you captured. I would certainly be tempted to eliminate the branches in the upper left.

Morkel - heavy shadow but the sense of movement really comes through, especially with the ellie behind too. The vertical comp works well.

    Morlel,

I am sure I have seen this before, perhaps on another site, and I am sure it had more oomph?

IMHO the BG elephant takes away a lot of of the impact of this "upset" elephant.

Love the curled ear and posture Morkel.

If you were to do some 'gardening' I would go for the ones behind the main elephant, as, although the ones on the LHS are just there and no more, they do add an edge to the frame.

    Is this 'déja vu'?

Thanks for your comments, folks. I agree having the elephant "alone in the frame" would have been better...yet "who" would she then have protected?

Well I for one do not need to see the "protected" youngster, and if it was there a better position would have helped a lot
