Hello everyone. Here is another shot I was able to capture of these fellows. I would have liked a lower angle but it was not possible. C&C welcomed and encouraged.
    Camera - Nikon 300s, Lense - Nikon 200-400w/1.4tc, Exposure - 1/640, Aperture - F8, ISO - 400, Focal Length - 550mm, Metering - Multi Segment, Manual.

Beautifully done, Robert. I like the picture but I'm not sure about the square crop.

    Robert:

Classic resting pose, good water with just a hint of color showing.

The shooting angle and still water should have given a decent reflection, so I assume it was cut off in the camera, versus in post?

I do agree with Karl about the crop. I don't personally mind square crops if there is a strong compositional reason for it, but I would be tempted to trim down from the top here.

Wing looks a bit sharper than the head, so perhaps a bit more sharpening on the latter.

Very serene feel to this one.

    Cheers

Robert, lovely lazy pose captured, and I do like the calmness of the water. Randy makes a good point about the sharpness. Comp wise, If you dont have a full reflection, I would crop this up from the bottom to eliminate the portion of reflection, and add to the left. I would also take at least half off the top. In situations like this, I would shoot the subject vertically, so as to get the reflection in the frame.

Thank you all for your comments. The reflection was obstructed by a piece of mud beneath the bird. Thats why I cut it off. Here is a different crop, with some off the top and added room to the left.

Robert, good recrop. excellent pose and whites. If you include more below and less at top, it will also make the angle appear lower. Good job getting close.

Good pose, I love it when they rest with an open eye!! Good colours, exposure. The repost improves on the comp alot...but the details seem to suffer from a big crop?
