Ok....another macabre Halloween shot ...but my last.....I was trying to create a graveyard mist. The shot started as as an infra red and was processed with fractilius, and color efex fog and pro contrast. Does the fog effect work? Suggestions and comments welcome

Cool shot...the effect that Fractalius had on the grass reminds me of specters/spirits coming up out of the ground. It does have a misty/surreal look...not exactly fog, but a very effective "other worldly" kind of feel. If it were mine, I might darken it a smidge overall...maybe punch the contrast a bit..and darken the sky a bit more...but that's my vision, not yours, and then you might lose that fog/mist feeling. I'm just thinking out loud...it's effective as is. I would have like to have seen a little bit more space in the foreground, beneath the RHS stone...but I LOVE the angel and the placement of the angel in the composition.
I like this. Starting out with IR was a great idea. (Every once in a while, I wonder about a digital camera converted for IR. Especially after seeing something like your image, here.) I think John hit it right on the head with his description of the Fractalius effect. It's a perfect filter for an image like this.
Seeing only the finished product, I'm not sure how effective the fog filter actually was, but I do like the way the image turned out. I've been trying to figure out if all those tones in the sky were actually there or if you worked some magic on it. There seems to be three layers of fog decreasing in intensity toward the top. I love that the second one is so uneven and how it spills over the angel's wings.
Too bad this is your last Halloween one for this year. I'll be looking forward to next year's.
Bob, I really like what you've done here. I'd also like to see it with more contrast and a darker overall "mood" but it is very special as is. One small thing you might consider if you leave it this light is to go back and take the shadow off the face of the angel so more of her features shine through. That seems to be where my eye goes - I want to make contact with her face and find it hard to do with it so gray.
John, Julie Dennis......I was trying to create a fog effect. Fog has low contrast and obscures details....I am not happy with it as is because i don't feel the fog effect worked real well. I am going to post the original ( infrared and Fractilius) with no color efex fog. Tell me what you think.
Dennis ....... I forgot to mention i used a grad filter as well on the sky
Hi Bob, this has a really cool look to it. Love the effects. I think the first post is too light and the repost maybe a touch too dark. I think I'd like to see it somewhere in the middle of the two, but that's just me. Nice work!
I would go with #2 and just lighten the darkest middle of the sky so it's a little more graduated in its depth. This second post has way more bang for the buck to me!
