Not sure I posted this one here before...

Another member of the pride we spent some quality time with in Savute, Botswana. I am looking forward to getting to know this resident pride better when I return on my photographic safaris next year.
The side-lighting from the setting sun provided some nice dappled light through the acacias.

    Techs:
    Canon 7D with 300mm f2.8 L IS USM
    f4.0 @ ISO-800
    Fill flash used (580EX)

Still like this one Morkel, great light, love the look back and perfect DOF.

Would perhaps still prefer a hint more above, but will concede on the small brach coming in.

    cheers

Morkel - nice light, I particularly like how it is hitting the face. Good detail and pleasing bg. It will be nice for you to be able to watch these youngsters grow up and for us to watch from afar.

Nice light, pose, and color. The branch is like a subtle finger pointing to the cub as if to say "Check this out".

I love how the light is falling in the cub and I also agree that a little more room up top would do no harm.

    Morkel,

I love image like this. Wonderful light nice pose, and excellent exposure and focus. I would not add canvas on the top, but I might trim a little off the right edge. to balance the space on the top and bottom.

    Morkel,

Very nice to see the Lions building up again in Savute, when did you take this as we saw two tiny ones and two a little bigger in January 2011 nd I am wondering if this could be one of those?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I will look at recropping tonight, Roger! As mentioned by Steve, including more space on top introduces even more branches from the tree .

Ken, this was taken in early May 2011. There were 2 of this size and 2 who were bigger so this might be the exact pride.

    Morkel,

Thanks for the info, seems that it must be the same Lions, lets hope they get a lot bigger, more Lions are definitely needed in Savute.

Like the soft light, did you do NR on the cub seems to lack fine detail. But all the other techs are spot on

    Thanks guys...

Dumay - nope, never do NR on the subject...will see if another round of subtle sharpening brings out the detail as it is there in the RAW...

Super comp Mork, with a good look back pose. I like the soft light and colours, and you have brought out the detail on the cub very well.
