Very powerful image. I thought maybe the above version might convey this even more. I added some more canvas on the bottom, increased the saturation on the bird, sharpened a bit more and reduced some of the glare on the bird. Really nice capture of the bird either way.

I think it is a great shot, I would reduce the highlights a little and add a little canvas and clone out the dark areas below the bill. The neck appears to be a little ill-defined but hey what a capture! The bird seems to sit on top of the background, I am not sure why - is this something to do with sharpening or possibly blending layers. Leroy version is good too but for me the colours are OTT.

That's a great shot. Incredible timing to capture such a fast moving event.

Great action shot. I agree with adding a little canvas.

Wow thats a drastic change, I like the added real estate in front of the bird to fly into, the bump in saturation and sharpness really does make nice eye candy, though I try to keep a real world view of the subjects I shoot, and though it would probably look better on a wall, If I saw this bird while out shooting I would mistake it for a red shouldered at first look..
Thanks for the effort as I do like seeing different perspectives..

Thanks Jon, This was pretty much out of the camera, with a slight sharpening, one layer neat image on the background, upped the contrast a bit and darkened it a bit as the lighting was very harsh, I think the seperation from the background is due to me being 30 feet from the bird and the bird being 50 yards from the background? DOF Bokeh can sometimes shock you with the DO. I think if you give the same shot to 20 different photographers your going to get 20 different versions after Processing, Thats the great thing about photography for the most part its so very subjective, but I do like to see the things others do, that I had not thought about..
    Thanks again..

Although I prefer the second composition better I feel it is now too saturated, especially in the reds. Nice "diving" pose!
