    Default Jackal fight

    Attached Images Attached Images

Following the kill there is always a fight.
These black backed jackals were really giving each other a real go for the remains of the kill and these two fought tooth and nail with one another while the others tucked in.
Between Bedinkt and Kousant, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
I like the jackal to the right that acts as the onlooker and the pieces of flesh and dirt flying around.
    Camera details:
    Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III
    EF 500mm f4 LUIS
    Extender x2 II
    ISO 400
    Aperture f8
    Shutter speed 1/500
Image processed in ACR and CS5 on a PC
    Any comments and solutions appreciated.

Super action here Mark...light well handled and the pano crop suits this. I like the framing very much.
IQ looks good - I would be very interested to see a 100% crop of a section of the image 'out-of-camera' to see the IQ you got from using the 500mm+2xTC on the FF 1DSmk3...mind posting one in this thread?

    Hi Morkel,
I would dearly like to oblige, but I have no CS5 and I dont have my new Macbook Pro to work on. When the new CS5 installation CD arrives from Adobe and the Macbook Pro, I will post it. I cant wait for everything to arrive so that I can process more images.
    Best wishes,
    Mark.

I like the pano crop and the action captured.
    Two things to consider:
First try to shoot at f/11 with the 2x
Second shooting in Africa in sunlight at 1000 mm will severely reduce the overall image IQ due to atmospheric conditions, mainly heat shimmer. I find it best not to shoot subjects at distance unless it is done in the cooler part of the day or above the ground (leopard in a tree).

    Best,

    Chas

    Mark,

Great action here, but to me the harshness is a little too much. love the one peeking in on RHS.

Great advice from Chas on stopping down as much as possible with an extender, especially with the lighting conditions.

Just out of interest what difference do you think using an Apple will make to your processing?

Hi Chas, Ken, Jamie, Sid and Brendan,
    Thanks for your comments.
Thanks Chas for your advice. I find that at times, even with the harsh light, I have to make the best of a bad situation when working a situation. Next time I will keep your advice in mind as I am sure it will help.
Ken, I hope the processing will be faster and that I will not be affected by windows upgrades preventing me from doing my computer work. We will have to just wait and see as the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
    Many thanks, Mark.

Nice line of jackals well suited for your chosen crop. Some nice interaction and I like the golden color of the scene.
