    Default Ostrich Chick

I am fortunate to have a nature reserve half an hour's drive from my house. I went there last saturday morning to see who had arrived for the summer. Not much in the way of the usual visitors, but came across a new addition to one of the many Ostrich families. When I ran my normal sharpening over the chick, the plumage resulted in looking rather 'crispy'. I then decided to selectively sharpen the chick where it counted.

Hi Stuart you did well with the sharpening. I like the little flower in front of the chick, nice exposure.

Thanks Bhai. I left the space for the virtual feet and a little extra room.

Stuart, I love this photo. I have never seen a baby ostrich. Their legs are really that short? When I saw this I assumed you didn't have enough space to add their long legs. Had their legs actually been long, I would agree on some off the bottom. TFS

I fully agree the lower part of the image is not ideal. In my defence, I was shooting from a car, thus the angle was not perfect. I do have other images at different angles and different BG's, but chose to go with this image first. Thanks Bhai.

Thanks to everyone else for your feedback and comments.

A first for me as well .. thanks for sharing!
Beautiful light, nice habitat and excellent pose and detail!

Agree with your choice to leave room for the "feet". Could tone down/desaturate FG a bit so it draws less attention.
Body of bird still looks a bit "crispy" to me but, then again, I have never seen one.

    Stuart,

This is a subject that unfortunately does not get the attention it deserves, probably because they usually run off at great speed

The FG is a bit of a nuisance, but I do not mind it, IMHO you have left plenty of space for the feet .
