    Lovely warm afternoon light Craig,which has brought out the colours nicely, and I love the raised foot. Your ss has let you down with regards capturing a pin sharp image, but the feather detail on the wing does show up very well.

    It looks like that the head is a bit soft on my minitor. Other than that the picture is a nice one.

    Yes to nice light and feather detail. The blur works for the foot but not for the head. With the bird angled away from you and sharpest focus apparently on the bird's body the head suffers from both movement and not enough d-o-f.

    Craig,

    I can only agree with the above comments , these are fast moving birds and a fast SS is definitely needed. I am no bird ID expert but I see no blue on the head, is this a juvenile?

    True Authur, the head is a little soft.
    Ken this is not a juvenile... The blue in not clear because of the head angle and the very yellow late afternoon sun. (Legs normally grey / blue color but have a light yellow color in this image)
