Taken in Kruger Park on my recent trip. We came across a pack of four adults and four pups. Unfortunately as is normal with these sightings there was a heavy traffic build up and photo opportunities were limited.

    Canon 50D -EF100-400 @ 160mm 1/1000 @f7.1 iso400 Almost FF.

It was mid morning and the sun was pretty bright so I have attempted Robert Amoruso's blending mode to tone down the highlights.

    C&C allways welcome.

    Nice, nice, spot on.
At risk of going too square, I'd crop bit from right. Also, know this sounds crazy, but I'd also flip it so dog looks left. (Try it).

Hope ok with you. Cropped for vertical, flipped. Of course has lost some of the original IQ. (And picked up some red color??? Why ?? I did not change color).

    Pieter,

A picture of a Wild Dog is always nice to see, first thing in the morning makes it even better.

You have great detail, nice pose and a wonderful eye, who could ask for more?

Lots of great detail and it looks to me like the use of the blending mode was successful here as the light doesn't look harsh at all. Not sure why but I think the left facing look is stronger, although if prefer the original horizontal crop.

Pieter - Nice portrait with good detail and you handled the light well. I too prefer the horizontal.

Thanks all for the kind comments and suggestions.

" Hope ok with you " - Tom I don't mind at all and yes flipping the image makes a difference however I do prefer the horizontal, thanks for your input. Not sure about the colour shift maybe some of the mods would know.

    Hi Pieter,
Nice looking IQ on this one and I like your comp. The dog's color and patterns are a nice contrast with the BG. Looks like he may have put one of his lower canines through his tongue recently?

Always good to get a decent pic at all of a Wild Dog in Kruger (rare sight and the traffic as mentioned)...
Looks like you're getting the hand of luminosity masks...I prefer the OP with the dog looking to the RHS.
