Default An interesting BG or not?

Here is a willet landing into a colony of hundreds of godwits, willets and dowitchers which constitute the BG. It was amazing how tight the landing was. I personally like this BG but I want to know what you think.

    Arash,

For me the BG is most definitely "interesting", but I am sure some may think that is a little busy. Nice bird BTW.

It works for me; you could blue it further.

BTW, as usual, you continue to exhibit an exceptional ability to capture BIF.

Are you HH the 800 or have you stopped at the 700? From whence you have come in a relatively short time is amazing.

Keep sharing; I really enjoy your images.

Lovely shot of the willet.... sorry background doesn't appeal to me. I think it should be either more blurred or alternatively the background birds would be identifiable as birds - albeit out of focus birds.

I like the BKGR and the SH better than the pose/wing position.

To my eye, the dark components of the BG compete too much with the bird.

I'd consider both blurring and lightening the BG.

The flight shot is pretty cool !

Arash, I personally like the BG, not to mention your usual sharp detail. The HA also works for me, and I like the way the head is framed by the wings, although I know some would prefer the bird to be angled just a bit more toward the viewer. Keep 'em coming.

    Arash,

I love the subject. The HA is OK with me, and I love the way the forward wing displays. Beautifully sharpened. Had I been there, and seen the birds which make up the BG, I'm sure that I would be attached to the background, as well. The colors are beautiful, and certainly complement the subject. But, I find the strong mottled look in the BG a bit distracting. I would agree that eliminating the darker spots would reduce the distraction. I like the image a lot, in spite of the BG.

Arash, I love the background -- adds a ton of interest IMO!

Love the bg. It adds to the awesome color scheme and compliments the bird well. Love the detail in the front wing.

Arash, thumnail does not do justice to this. I like the BG...but I can see merit in selecting just the Bg and reducing contrast a bit. Terrific sharpness and DOF.

Maybe as Kaustubh suggests, try bringing down the contrast a bit on the BG, but I don't mind it otherwise, I think it's beautiful. Though I can see how others might feel it detracts. Great job on the BIF. Sharpness, exposure, and detail all mind boggling as usual.

I like the background and I wouldn't change it a bit. Great light and details on the willet.
This seems to be a great place for nature photography.

Arash - my first impression looking at the thumbnail was "too busy". But after looking at the opened image I think it is very complementary. Of course, gorgeous bird and beautiful capture.

I like the HA, so maybe I don't know what a good HA is?
It looks like eye contact to me, so I don't mind that at all.
I also like the down wing position and it is sharp as usual.
I looked at the photo a number of times and I think the best thing I like about it is,
It looks real, not a bland one color blur. It is busy, but you have nice separation for f8, probably
a larger aperture would have been better. If you tried to lighten the dark spots, they would show it,
and I know you know what you are doing in the PP.
I think it is one of your more interesting BIF photos.

I too wonder about tight landings in these colonies - it would be an air traffic controller's nightmare :)
The bg most definitely works for me. I love it. I think it complements the bird nicely.
Sharp details, exposure and dof are superb.
