that's a beauty gary!!!
Nice photo and wonderful detail on the face and throat. The face could be a bit brighter and I would love to see the bright section of sky and the brightest leaves toned down a bit. Ruby-throated Hummingbird does not occur that far west. I think that this might be an Allen's...

With Artie's suggestions here is my first effort.
Artie I think we are both wrong its a black-chinned.
Cheers
gary
Gary, this is outstanding. I like Artie's suggestions.
I like the re post lots better !!! Still could go brighter Btw the original exposure should have produced a good histogram
Excellent pose and clean bg !!! I like it a lot !!!
Love the repost of this beautifully posed bird. Sharp detail and great composition. Even the perch is attractive. I think this is a juvenile male Rufous Hummingbird.
Gees, we were all wrong its a Broad-tailed hummingbird -got it from the experts.

Wow! Really lovely--especially the repost.
Hi Gary, Much better on the re-post, and a really good job with the light leaves. Black-chinned would I think be most likely there, but the rufous tones on the flanks and esp. on the tail make me think of Allen's.
Allen's and rufous are--in some plumages--virtually indistiguishable in the field. And again, I am without a field guide till I get back home mid-month.
