I know this is not a nature photo, but I'd appreciate some feedback. We were in New Orleans today and I snapped this one of my husband, then tried to recreate it as more of an artwork using the colored pencil filter primarily with a wash of watercolor at 30%. II like the comp and overall look, but I'm wondering if there is enough color or is the little bit there enough? I'd like to do something about the large grey area of his shirt but don't know what yet. Would appreciate critique.
Greetings. Interesting look... Much of what to do is a matter of taste... what I might try is blending back some of the original in places where you want added color or texture... That would add a base, for instance, to the gray area of the shirt.
What I mean by blending back is:
- Place original over the above as a layer
- adjust opacity to say 20-30% to see if that will do you
Adjustments to opacity or addition of a mask to selectively apply does the trick usually for me...
Just some ideas... I like the general idea, but I think the gray base needs some work...
Hazel, I like your composition and your attempt at conversion. I've had horrible luck with this same thing when trying for a pencil sketch look so I don't have any advice to give...just that I think it would be worth it to keep going with it and see what you can get.
Hazel, I think that this looks neat. Non nature images are now allowed in OOTB so no worries. I might do as Michael suggests and see it it works. I do kind of wish he wasn't so centered. I'd love to see your repost w/ Michael's suggestions, if they don't work maybe we can have a look at the original.
This is a beautiful composition, Hazel, I like how the hat covers part of the face. My personal preference would be to go b&w and then adjust white, gray and black point using selective colors. If color is the way to go, I agree Michael suggestion is a good alternative.
