    Default White-fronted Goose take off

Taken with canon 1D mark iv, canon 800mm IS, 1/1000, f/8.0, ISO 1600. I was using my car as a blind photographing grassing White-fronted Goose when somebody came out of a house about 400 meters away. The flock of about 40 goose took of in an instant. I pressed the shutter and came out with this photo. I like the pose of the birds but I was to slow for the action so the focus is a little to far back on the goose in front. I would have liked to use smaller aperture for more DOF but didn´t want to go higher on the ISO, after all I was going to photograph sitting birds. Post processed with lightroom. Cropped to about ź of the orginal picture. As the wings where clipped from the top I wanted to crop of the side too for a better composition.

Ooh so close! This is a killer shot with the three birds together. As you stated, the face on the front bird (and the one on the right for that matter) is not quite in focus. Just a little bit soft.

An interesting trio! A shame about the focus. You mention this is a bigger crop - I'd like to see a portrait oriented shot that shows the wings.

I like the composition. Given that you were very close and that you don't have any room from the top, this is a very nice crop. I would try to selectively sharpen the head of the Goose in front and maybe increase the saturation a little.

I love the explosion here, with the three distinct subjects, feet dangling, tight cropping works well for this.

If the front birds head can be sharpened a bit, it would add greatly here.

Good reflex to push the button when they blasted off.

    Good exposure.

Makes me think of synchronized swimming.

    cheers
