    Default Cedar Waxwing

Shot on a cloudy morning a few days ago. A flock of mixed cedars and bohemians are flying around our city. You just have to wait in one place and wait for them to come. SOmetimes it is hard to get just 1 bird in the frame.

Very nice feeding pose and head angle. The bird looks a tad oversharpened on my monitor. There have been flocks with hundreds of bohemian waxwings around here, too.

Just lovely with the berry. Did you lighten the inside of the mouth in post processing? Looks a little noisy in there.

It is tough to get great exposure on masked birds. The main feathers look great, but there is little detail in the mask area.

Alan, very nice shot. Could you please post your camera and lens info. I tend to learn a lot from seeing what people shoot with. Thanks.

Thanks for the commentsAxel. I don't see the bird as being oversharpened - maybe it is just my eyes, however, being used to oversharpened images. I know there are so many around.

    Sid, I used a D300, a 400 vr lens with a 1.7 tc. I use auto iso - shutter speed was around 1/800 with f stop probably 5.6.

Jim and Manos, I knew the mask would be black. I used active d-lighting set to high. I selected the mask in PS and used levels on it. I did not do anything with the inside of the mouth.

Manos, did you mena those areas for noise or just hink I should be done noise reduction on the sky and some areas of the bird?
