A little overdue for my semi-annual avian post, I got this one on a hike a few weeks ago. Love the fuzzy feet on these guys and I liked the colors of the backlit grasses and shaded, lichen colored rock in the BG. 7D, 1-400L, f6.3, 1/1250s, ISO 500, +1/3 EC, HH, small crop all around.
Hi Steve, this post is long overdue. I like the direct eye contact and raised foot. Well exposed, with the colours showing up nicely against the whites. Looks like I will have to throw a post into wildlife. Cheers.
Steve, I see you write "small crop all around". I find the pudgy little fellow a bit tight in the frame from side to side. If you could loosen that up a little and take from the top, might be worth a try. I see what Joe means about the eyes, they get a little lost. I find with less on top to compete with them, they pop more. All that said, I really love how you handled the lighting here, love the lichen colored rock, and wish you'd post at least quarterly in avian.
