Hi Roy..I'll take a shot, I would this a Juvenile Greater Yellowlegs because of the crispy streaking on the front, pale base of bill. But I hate ID'ing shorebirds.

I'm wondering if the dainty look and the relatively short bill suggests a Lesser. I hate shorebirds too Paul!!!!!!

The bill's actually pretty heavy and it's pale at the base. If you look at the upper culmen, it also looks a little upturned. These marks are correct for Greater Yellowlegs.

Another point in favor of Greater is that the bill seems be at least 1 and 1/2 times the diameter of the head.

Thanks guys, I had it pegged as a Yellowlegs, but after I called a Dowitcher a Yellowlegs I was unsure. You think you hate ID'ing shorebirds Paul and John, you guys are pros compared to me.

I agree with the Greater Yellowlegs tag. I don't think I've ever seen a Lesser in Gilbert.

I'm thinking Greater Yellowlegs as well (when it comes to shorebirds, that's the kiss of death. I always have a hard time with them)
