Default Starry Night in Old Terlingua

I think that I may have posted this in another location but it seems to fit the them so I'll risk a duplicate post. There isn't much post processing on this one. I slid the white balance a little toward warmer and slid brightness up a little but that's about it. This is a 30 second exposure. There is slight trailing when viewed at 100%. There is some light painting (1 sec or so) coming from a small LED flashlight from behind and to the right of the crosses.

Fantastic Michael, I like this a lot. Nice job with the composition, exposure, and subtle light painting. Debating a slight crop from the right... Nicely done.

Very creative and well done. The light painting on the crosses and the mounds turned out perfectly, adding just the right amount of detail. I also like there is just the last bit of dusk in the sky adding to the depth of the image.

The old Terlingua cemetery is very historic and they still use it (though not very often). A lot of the graves go back to the 1800's, when quicksilver (mercury) mining was still in operation. They have an annual celebration much like Dia de los Muertos but I have yet to make it there for it. We shot some time lapse video there as well as stills. There were 4 of us total and we spent about 4 hours there (10pm to 2am).

Kerry- I considered that as well but I didn't want to crowd the cross on the right. The image above has not been cropped. I've been trying to consciously crop to the golden mean in camera. That's not always a good plan but it seemed to work for this one.

    Thanks Denise

Nancy- Believe it or not that is not dusk. We went during a New Moon and the skies are so dark there that you can actually see shadows from the starlight. Most of the people that I went with (just a group of like minded photographers that met on the net. Nothing formal) navigated their way around the cemetery with head lamps. I didn't need anything to see where I was going. That part of TX has truly dark skies and it is a joy to shoot time lapse and night images there. It's actually darker in the Big Bend back country.

I like the image design. I like the oof trees on the right and the angled light in the sky. You might consider losing the little bit of cross sticking out behind the front one.

    Thanks Cheryl, Artie, and Andrew.

I'm glad that you pointed the little stick out Artie. I am going to print the image and for it's size the little stick is pretty distracting. I think that it would have ruined a print.
